Introduction

Note

You should enter this Pinpoint Test only when you have been directed here from Diagnostic Routines, Section 2A.

Remember

This Pinpoint Test is not intended to diagnose components in the transmission. To prevent the replacement of good components, be aware that the following non-EEC areas may be at fault:

Engine

Performance, Vacuum, Cooling, Brakes

Electrical

Generator, Battery integrity, Brake Switch

Transmission

Internal Transmission Components, Linkage, Cooling

This Pinpoint Test is intended to diagnose only the following:

Harness Circuits: TCC, CCS, EPC, SS3/4-4/3 SS1, SS2, SS3, SIG RTN, EPC PWR, and VPWR
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (12A650) or (12B565 on 7.3L Diesel)

2.0L Probe, California (CD4E)

The A4LD, AX4S, AODE, E4OD and CD4E transmissions use solenoids to shift transmission gear ratios, connect both turbine and impeller in the torque converter, and provide coasting on deceleration. The ground signal is controlled by the PCM and 12 volts VPWR is supplied to the solenoids from the EEC power relay. On 4EAT transmissions, the solenoids are controlled by a positive voltage from the PCM.
