Water Pump

Removal

  1. Drain the cooling system. To prevent loss of coolant when draining the radiator (8005), attach a hose on the radiator draincock (8115) and drain the coolant from the radiator into a clean container.

    To drain the radiator, open the radiator draincock located at the bottom of the radiator and remove the radiator cap (8100) or tank cap. The engine (6007) has one drain plug located at the left rear of the cylinder block.

  1.  CAUTION: Release drive belt tensioner (6B209) slowly or damage to the drive belt tensioner may occur.

    Using 3/8-inch drive flex handle, lift the drive belt tensioner away from the belt. Remove belt. Release drive belt tensioner slowly.

  1. Remove the fan, fan clutch (8A616), and water pump pulley (8509). Refer to Section 03-05.

  1. Remove wiring bracket (14536).

  1. Disconnect the heater water hose (18472) and lower radiator hose (8286) at the water pump (8501).

  1. Remove the bolts attaching the water pump to the cylinder block (6010). Remove the water pump and engine front cover gasket (6020).

Installation

  1. If required, remove the fittings from the old water pump and install them on the new water pump. Clean all gasket material from the mounting surfaces of the water pump and cylinder block.

  1. Position an engine front cover gasket, coated on both sides with sealer, on the cylinder block.

  1. Install the water pump. Tighten bolts to 17-24 Nm (12-18 lb-ft).

  1. Install wiring bracket and torque nuts to 8-13 Nm (6-10 lb-ft).

  1. Connect the lower radiator hose and heater water hose. Install the water pump pulley and fan. Refer to Section 03-05. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to Section 03-03. Install drive belt (8620) on engine. Run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. Operate the engine and check for leaks.
