REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Radiator Drain Cock, 4.9L

 

Aluminum Core Radiator

Removal

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to the Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding in the Cleaning and Inspection portion of this section.

  1. After the radiator (8005) is drained, and when the stem is unscrewed to the end of the threads, pull the stem from the radiator tank and drain cock body.





  1. Remove the drain cock body from the radiator tank by squeezing the sides together with a pair of needle nose pliers. Then, pull the body from the inlet tank.





Installation

  1. Check the radiator draincock (8115) to be sure the body is installed loosely on the stem. If the stem is screwed into the body, the radiator draincock cannot be installed into the tank opening.

  1. Push the loosely assembled drain cock assembly body into the tank opening until it snaps into place.

  1. Tighten the drain cock stem by turning clockwise to 2-3 Nm (18-27 lb-in) torque.

  1. Refill cooling system. Refer to the Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding in the Cleaning and Inspection portion of this section.





 

Radiator Draincock All Except 4.9L

The radiator draincock is located near the bottom of the radiator.

Removal

  1. Turn the radiator draincock counterclockwise to unscrew. When the radiator draincock is unscrewed to the end of the threads, pull the stem from the radiator inlet tank.

  1. Remove the radiator draincock from the radiator by squeezing the sides together with a pair of needlenose pliers. Then pull the radiator draincock from the radiator inlet tank.

Installation

  1. Make sure O-ring is in groove on stem of radiator draincock.

  1. Water-saturate radiator draincock in order to wet O-ring.

  1. Push the radiator draincock into the radiator opening until it snaps into place.

  1. Tighten the radiator draincock by turning clockwise to 1.0 Nm (9 lb-in).
