REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Throttle Body

Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).

  1. Disconnect throttle position sensor (TP sensor) (9B989) and idle air control valve (IAC valve) (9F715) connectors.

  1. Disconnect air cleaner outlet tube assembly from engine air cleaner bracket (9647) at the valve cover. Refer to Section 03-12.

  1. Loosen clamps and remove the air cleaner outlet tube assembly from the throttle body (9E926).

  1. Remove the engine electrical harness from the bracket.

  1.  CAUTION: When disconnecting accelerator cable (9A758) from ball stud, use a screwdriver or similar tool close to the ball stud to pry off. Removing by hand may damage the cable.

    Remove the accelerator control splash shield (9E766). Disconnect the accelerator cable, transmission kickdown cable, and speed control actuator cable (9A825).

  1. Disconnect the secondary air injection pump (AIR pump) (9A486) from the throttle body.

  1. Disconnect the main emission vacuum control connector (9E498) from the throttle body.

  1. Remove four throttle body nuts.

  1. Carefully separate throttle body and accelerator cable bracket (9723) from upper intake manifold (9424).

  1. Remove and discard throttle body gasket (TB gasket) (9E936).

Installation

  1. NOTE: If scraping is necessary, be careful not to damage gasket surfaces of throttle body and upper manifold assemblies, or allow material to drop into intake manifold.

    Make sure that both throttle body and intake manifold gasket surfaces are clean.

  1. Install a new throttle body gasket on the four studs of the upper intake manifold.

  1. Position the accelerator cable bracket onto the throttle body.

  1. Install throttle body to upper intake manifold.

  1. Secure throttle body to upper intake manifold with four retaining nuts. Tighten to 19-27 Nm (14-20 lb-ft).

  1. Connect idle air control valve and throttle position sensor electrical connectors.

  1. Connect the main emission vacuum control connector to the throttle body.

  1. Connect speed control actuator cable, transmission kickdown cable, and accelerator cable. Install accelerator control splash shield.

  1. Connect the secondary air injection pump to the main emission vacuum control connector.

  1. Position air cleaner outlet tube assembly for installation to the throttle body and tighten clamps to 1-2 Nm (9-18 lb-in).

  1. Attach the air cleaner outlet tube assembly to the engine air cleaner bracket at the valve cover. Refer to Section 03-12.

  1. NOTE: When the battery (10655) has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

    Reconnect the battery ground cable.
