Diesel Engine
The exhaust back pressure regulator (EPR) is a variable-position valve that controls exhaust back pressure during cold ambient temperatures to decrease the amount of time required to warm up the engine. The powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) uses the measured exhaust back pressure, ambient air temperature and engine oil temperature to determine the desired exhaust back pressure.
