Removal
CAUTION: Do not use heat to loosen a frozen lug nut. Heat can shorten the life of the wheel and damage the wheel bearings.
Remove wheel cover (1130) or ornament. Loosen, but do not remove the wheel hub bolt nuts.
Raise vehicle until tire clears floor. Refer to Section 00-02.
Remove lug nuts and pull wheel off brake drum (1126) or front or rear disc brake hub and rotor.
Installation
WARNING: WHEN A WHEEL IS INSTALLED, ALWAYS REMOVE ANY CORROSION, DIRT OR FOREIGN MATERIAL PRESENT ON THE MOUNTING SURFACES OF THE WHEEL OR THE SURFACE OF THE WHEEL HUB (1104), BRAKE DRUM OR BRAKE ROTOR THAT CONTACTS THE WHEEL. INSTALLING WHEELS WITHOUT PROPER METAL-TO-METAL CONTACT AT THE WHEEL MOUNTING SURFACES CAN CAUSE THE LUG NUTS TO LOOSEN AND THE WHEEL TO COME OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL.
Clean dirt from wheel hub mounting surface.
Place wheel on brake drum or front or rear disc brake hub and rotor and tighten lug nuts alternately.
NOTE: Replacement lug nuts must be the same type and size as original equipment.
Lower vehicle and evenly tighten 1/2-20 lug nuts to 100-180 Nm (74-133 lb-ft) and 9/16-18 lug nuts to 170-230 Nm (126-170 lb-ft), following the torque sequence shown in the appropriate wheel replacement procedure in this section.
Replace ornament.
