REMOVAL

Transmission

  1. Shift the transmission (7003) into neutral.

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301) from battery terminal.

  1. Remove the retainer screws from gearshift lever boot (7277) and slide the gearshift lever boot up the shaft of gearshift lever and housing.

  1. Remove the retaining bolt lock nut and remove the retaining bolt from gearshift lever and housing by placing lock nut on opposite end of bolt and tightening to loosen the bolt. Remove the gearshift lever and housing.

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist and position safety stands under the vehicle.

  1. Disconnect the connector for the backup lamp switch (15520) located at the top left hand side of the transmission.

  1. NOTE: Drain transmission only if disassembly is required.

    Place drain pan under transmission. Remove the transmission case plug and drain the oil from the transmission.

  1. Position a transmission jack such as Rotunda High Lift Transmission Jack 164-R3508 or equivalent under the transmission.

  1. Remove the driveshaft from the transmission. Refer to Section 05-01.

  1. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic line. Refer to Section 08-02.

  1. Remove the rear engine support insulator. Remove the crossmember.

  1. Remove the bolts that retain the transmission to the engine (6007).

  1. Move the transmission to the rear until the input shaft (7017) clears the case (7005). Lower the transmission from the vehicle.
