REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Clutch Release Hub and Bearing

Removal

  1. Remove transmission (7003). Refer to Section 07-03A or Section 07-03B.

  1. NOTE: On 7.3L and 7.5L engine applications, remove clutch release hub and bearing (7548) by sliding it off the transmission input shaft (7017).

    For 4.9L, 5.0L, and 5.8L engines, push the clutch release hub and bearing toward transmission, exposing retaining ring.

  1. For 4.9L, 5.0L and 5.8L engines, remove retaining ring. Pull clutch release hub and bearing off the clutch slave cylinder (7A508).

Installation

  1. NOTE: Prior to installation, lubricate bearing bore and bearing carrier with Ford Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or -K or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B.

    Install clutch release hub and bearing to clutch slave cylinder by pushing into place for vehicles equipped with 4.9L, 5.0L and 5.8L engines. For vehicles with 7.3L or 7.5L engine, slide bearing onto the input shaft and input shaft guide tube.

  1. Replace retaining ring for vehicles equipped with 4.9L, 5.0L and 5.8L engines.

  1. Install transmission. Refer to Section 07-03A or Section 07-03B.
