Section 10-01B: Fuel Tank, Filters, Tubes and Fuel Pump, Diesel Engine
1996 F-Series and F-Super Duty Vehicles Equipped with Diesel Engines Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

Fuel Pump, Mechanical

WARNING: NO SMOKING OR OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE SHOULD BE PRESENT WHEN WORKING NEAR FUEL OR FUEL VAPOR.

The fuel pump (9350) is bolted to the top of the cylinder block.

The fuel pump is mechanically operated by an eccentric cam located on the camshaft. The pump actuator rides against the eccentric, providing the diaphragm up-and-down pumping motion.

The fuel pump cannot be disassembled for repairs and must be replaced if testing indicates it is not within performance specifications. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual OBDI for testing procedures.
