REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Spindle/Steering Arm

Removal

  1. Remove the spindle connecting rod end ball stud or the drag link ball stud from the spindle or steering arm.

  1. Remove the cotter pin and attaching nut from the arm.

  1. Remove the arm from the front wheel spindle (3105). Drive tie rod adjusting sleeve (3281) out of front wheel spindle, if necessary.

Installation

  1. Install new tie rod adjusting sleeve.

  1. NOTE: The spindle hole is slotted to align the front wheel spindle with key. Make sure the key is flush with slot face of tie rod adjusting sleeve.

    Insert the key into slot from the nut side of tie rod adjusting sleeve.

  1. Install the arm attaching nut. Tighten to 70-100 Nm (51-73 lb-ft).

  1. Install a new cotter pin through the nut and ball stud.

  1. Install the spindle connecting rod end ball stud or drag link ball stud in the arm. Install the ball stud nut and tighten to 70-100 Nm (51-73 lb-ft).

  1. Install a new cotter pin through the nut and ball stud.

  1. Check the toe and adjust, if necessary. Refer to Section 04-00.

  1. NOTE: Some spindle arms have fixed steering stops and do not require adjustment.

    Adjust and lock the steering stop adjusting bolts to specification.
