Introduction

Note

You should enter this Pinpoint Test only when you have been directed here from Diagnostic Routines, Section 2A.

Remember

To prevent the replacement of good components, verify proper Engine RPM sensor installation and complete electrical connection.

This Pinpoint Test is intended to diagnose only the following:

Harness circuits: RPM(+) and RPM(-)
Engine RPM sensor (17B384)
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) assembly (12B565)

Description

The engine RPM sensor picks up signals from the injection fuel pump timing gear on the 7.3L diesel and supplies engine rpm input to the PCM. The PCM uses this information in E4OD transmission control.
