DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
Pinpoint Tests, Turn Signal Lamps/Hazard Flasher Lamps
NOTE: Use Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent when performing electrical pinpoint tests.
PINPOINT TEST J: ALL TURN SIGNAL LAMPS/HAZARD FLASHER LAMPS INOPERATIVE
J1 CHECK FUSES
- Check turn/hazard flasher fuse 7 and fuse 13 for continuity.
Are fuses good?
Yes | No |
GO to J2. | REPLACE bad fuse(s). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
J2 CHECK VOLTAGE FEED SIDE FUSE 7
- Key in RUN.
- Check for voltage at turn flasher fuse 7, Circuit 687 (GY/Y), feed side.
Is battery voltage present?
Yes | No |
GO to J3. | CHECK Circuit 687 (GY/Y) for continuity between ignition switch and IP fuse panel. REFER to Section 11-05 for testing of ignition switch. |
J3 CHECK VOLTAGE FEED SIDE FUSE 13
- Key OFF.
- Check for voltage at hazard flasher fuse 13, Circuit 38 (BK/O), feed side.
Is battery voltage present?
J4 CHECK CONTINUITY OF CIRCUIT 38 (BK/O)
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Check for continuity on Circuit 38 (BK/O) between IP fuse panel fuse 13 and power distribution box fuse 13.
Is continuity present?
Yes | No |
CHECK fuse 13 and feed wiring in power distribution box. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. | REPAIR open in Circuit 38 (BK/O). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
J5 CHECK TURN/HAZARD FLASHER FEEDS
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Check continuity of Circuit 8 (O/Y) between IP fuse panel fuse 7 and turn flasher, Circuit 383 (R/W) between IP fuse panel fuse 13 and hazard flasher.
Is continuity present?
Yes | No |
GO to J6. | REPAIR open in noncontinuous circuit(s). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
J6 CHECK INDICATOR FLASHER
- Reconnect battery ground cable.
- Restore vehicle.
- Substitute a known good indicator flasher.
Do turn/hazard lamps perform correctly?
Yes | No |
RESTORE vehicle. Problem corrected. | GO to J7. |
J7 CHECK MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH FEEDS
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Check continuity of Circuit 44 (LB) between turn flasher and multi-function switch Pin C1-1, Circuit 385 (R/W) between hazard flasher and multi-function switch Pin C1-4.
Is continuity present?
Yes | No |
GO to J8. | REPAIR open in noncontinuous circuit(s). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
J8 CHECK MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH TURN CONTINUITY
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Remove multi-function switch. Refer to Section 11-05 for removal procedure.
- Actuate multi-function switch to the left and right turn positions and check continuity between Pin C1-1, Circuit 44 (LB) and:
- LEFT Pin C1-8, Circuit 3 (LG/W)
- Pin C1-10, Circuit 9 (LG/O)
- RIGHT Pin C1-5, Circuit 2 (W/LB)
- Pin C1-2, Circuit 5 (O/LB)
Is continuity present in all cases?
Yes | No |
GO to J9. | REPLACE damaged multi-function switch. REFER to Section 11-05. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
J9 CHECK MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH HAZARD CONTINUITY
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Remove multi-function switch. Refer to Section 11-05 for removal procedure.
- Actuate multi-function switch to the hazard position and check continuity between Pin C1-4, Circuit 385 (R/W) and:
- Pin C1-2, Circuit 5 (O/LB)
- Pin C1-10, Circuit 9 (LG/O)
- Pin C1-5, Circuit 2 (W/LB)
- Pin C1-8, Circuit 3 (LG/W)
Is continuity present in all cases?
Yes | No |
GO to J10. | REPLACE damaged multi-function switch. REFER to Section 11-05. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
J10 CHECK LAMP FEED WIRING
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Install multi-function switch. Refer to Section 11-05.
- Check continuity between multi-function switch circuit feed specified and the corresponding exterior lamp:
- Circuit 3 (LG/W) Left Front Turn Lamp
- Circuit 2 (W/LB) Right Front Turn Lamp
- Circuit 9 (LG/O) Left Rear Stop/Turn Lamp
- Circuit 5 (O/LB) Right Rear Stop/Turn Lamp
Is continuity present in all cases?
Yes | No |
GO to J11. | REPAIR open in noncontinuous circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
J11 CHECK MINIATURE BULBS
- Remove miniature bulbs.
- Check continuity of front turn lamps and rear stop/turn lamps.
Is continuity present?
Yes | No |
GO to J12. | REPLACE damaged miniature bulb. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
J12 CHECK LAMP GROUNDS
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Check continuity of Circuit 57 (BK) at each front turn lamp and each rear stop/turn lamp with a known good ground.
Is continuity present?
Yes | No |
System OK. | REPAIR open in noncontinuous circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
PINPOINT TEST K: INDIVIDUAL TURN SIGNAL/FLASHER LAMP INOPERATIVE
K1 CHECK MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH
- Connect Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent to a known good ground and with the turn signal switch on, check for voltage at the multi-function switch on the following circuits.
- LH Front 3 (LG/W) Pin C1-8
- RH Front 2 (W/LB) Pin C1-5
- LH Rear 9 (LG/O) Pin C1-10
- RH Rear 5 (O/LB) Pin C1-2
Is battery voltage present?
Yes | No |
GO to K2. | REPLACE multi-function switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
K2 CHECK FOR POWER TO SOCKETS
- Use Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent to check for battery voltage to turn indicator bulb sockets with turn signal switch on.
- LH Front 3 (LG/W)
- RH Front 2 (W/LB)
- LH Rear 9 (LG/O)
- RH Rear 5 (O/LB)
Is battery voltage present at each of these circuits?
Yes | No |
GO to K3. | REPAIR noncontinuous circuit between multi-function switch and miniature bulbs. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
K3 CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Use Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent to check the continuity of ground Circuit 57 (BK) at the suspect lamp.
Is the resistance 5 ohms or less?
Yes | No |
REPLACE bulb. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. | REPAIR open in ground circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
PINPOINT TEST L: TURN SIGNAL LAMPS ON CONTINUOUSLY
L1 CIRCUIT INSPECTION
- Check all circuits involving the indicator system for short circuits to power. Refer to Section 13-01.
Do any such shorts exist?
Yes | No |
REPAIR damaged circuit as outlined in Section 13-01. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. | GO to L2. |
L2 CHECK MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH
- Key OFF.
- Actuate turn signal to the OFF position. Using a Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter, check Circuits 9 (LG/O) Pin C1-10 and 5 (O/LB) Pin C1-2 at the multi-function switch.
Is battery voltage present on either of these circuits?
Yes | No |
REPLACE multi-function switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. | System OK. |
PINPOINT TEST M: ONE TURN SIGNAL LAMP INOPERATIVE
M1 CHECK MINIATURE BULB
- Check miniature bulb of inoperative turn signal lamp.
Does miniature bulb check ok?
Yes | No |
GO to M2. | REPLACE damaged miniature bulb. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
M2 CHECK FOR POWER
- With turn indicator in operating position, use Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent to check voltage on affected circuit.
Is battery voltage present on the circuit?
Yes | No |
GO to M3. | REPAIR open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
M3 CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT
- Using Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent, check Circuit 57 (BK) at affected light.
Is the resistance 5 ohms?
Yes | No |
Ground OK. | REPAIR ground circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
PINPOINT TEST N: HAZARD FLASHER INOPERATIVE
N1 CHECK INDICATOR FLASHER
- Replace indicator flasher with known good flasher.
Does system work properly?
Yes | No |
System OK. | GO to N2. |
N2 CHECK POWER TO HAZARD FLASHER
- Using Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent, check 15A fuse 13, Circuit 383 (R/W) for voltage to the hazard flasher.
Is voltage present at hazard flasher?
Yes | No |
GO to N3. | REPAIR open in Circuit 385 (R/W). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
N3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT HAZARD FLASHER
- Actuate hazard flasher to the ON position.
- Check Circuit 385 (R/W) for voltage using Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent at the multi-function switch.
Is voltage present on Circuit 385 (R/W) at the multi-function switch?
Yes | No |
GO to N4. | REPAIR open in Circuit 385 (R/W). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
N4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE
- Using Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent with hazard flasher on, check for voltage at the multi-function switch.
- LH Front Circuit 3 (LG/W) Pin C1-8
- LH Rear Circuit 9 (LG/O) Pin C1-10
- RH Front Circuit 2 (W/LB) Pin C1-5
- RH Rear Circuit 5 (O/LB) Pin C1-2
Is battery voltage present in all cases?
Yes | No |
GO to N5. | REPLACE multi-function switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
N5 CHECK HAZARD FLASHER GROUND
- Use Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent to check ground circuits at the lamps.
Is resistance 5 ohms or less?
Yes | No |
REPLACE damaged miniature bulbs. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. | REPAIR ground circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
PINPOINT TEST P: HAZARD FLASHERS ON CONTINUOUSLY
P1 HAZARD FLASHERS CIRCUIT INSPECTION
- Check all circuits around the hazard flasher system for short circuits to power.
Do such shorts exist?
Yes | No |
REPAIR damaged circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. | GO to P2. |
P2 CHECK HAZARD SWITCH OPERATION
- Key in ON.
- Hazard switch in the OFF position. With a Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent, check Circuit 9 (LG/O) Pin C1-10 and Circuit 5 (O/LB) Pin C1-2 at the multi-function switch.
Is voltage present on either of these circuits?
Yes | No |
REPLACE multi-function switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. | System OK. |
PINPOINT TEST Q: HAZARD FLASHER LAMPS INOPERATIVE
Q1 CHECK STOPLAMPS
- Check stoplamps and turn signal lamp operation with indicator flasher.
Do stoplamps and turn signal lamps operate properly?
