DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
Pinpoint Tests
PINPOINT TEST A: DRL MALFUNCTION OR DRL INOPERATIVE
A1 CHECK HIGH BEAM OPERATION
- Key in RUN.
- Parking brake fully released.
- Headlamp switch OFF or in the PARK position.
Are the high beams off?
A2 CHECK HIGH BEAM INTENSITY
- Key in RUN.
- Parking brake fully released.
- Headlamp switch OFF or in the PARK position.
Are the high beams on at reduced intensity?
Yes | No |
System is functioning properly. No service required. | REPLACE daytime running lamps control module. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
A3 CHECK DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS CONTROL MODULE INSTALLATION
- Key OFF.
- Headlamp switch OFF.
- Check installation of daytime running lamps control module and harness connector.
Is daytime running lamps control module installed and is connector fully seated?
Yes | No |
GO to A4. | REINSTALL daytime running lamps control module. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
A4 CHECK DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS CONTROL MODULE POWER
- Key OFF.
- Remove daytime running lamps control module.
- Check IP fuse panel fuse 17 (10A) and power distribution box fuses 3 (30A) and 5 (15A) for an open.
- Replace fuse(s) if opened.
- Key in RUN.
- Parking brake fully released.
- Headlamp switch OFF or in the PARK position.
- Multi-function switch in LO beam position.
Is battery voltage present at Pins 3 and 7 of daytime running lamps control module and at Pin 13 of instrument cluster connectors?
Yes | No |
GO to A5. | SERVICE Circuit 298 (P/O), Circuit 38 (BK/O), or Circuit 640 (R/Y) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
A5 CHECK DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS CONTROL MODULE PIN 8
- With daytime running lamps control module removed, actuate key to RUN.
- Headlamp switch in the HEAD position.
- Multi-function switch in the HI beam position.
- Check for battery voltage at Pin 8 of the daytime running lamps control module connector.
Is battery voltage present?
Yes | No |
GO to A6. | SERVICE open in Circuit 12 (LG/BK) between headlamps and daytime running lamps control module connector. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
A6 CHECK MODULE GROUND
- With daytime running lamps control module removed, actuate key to RUN.
- Headlamp switch in the HEAD position.
- Multi-function switch in the HI beam position.
- Check resistance between Pin 6 of the daytime running lamps control module connector and a known good ground.
Is resistance 1.5 ohms or less?
Yes | No |
GO to A7. | SERVICE open in Circuit 13 (R/BK) between headlamps and daytime running lamps control module connector. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
A7 CHECK DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS CONTROL MODULE PIN 6
- With daytime running lamps control module removed, actuate key to RUN.
- Headlamp switch in the HEAD position.
- Multi-function switch in the LO beam position.
- Check for battery voltage at Pin 6 of the daytime running lamps control module connector.
Is battery voltage present?
Yes | No |
GO to A8. | SERVICE open in Circuit 13 (R/BK) between headlamps and daytime running lamps control module connector. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
A8 CHECK HIGH BEAM INDICATOR
- With daytime running lamps control module removed, actuate key to RUN.
- Headlamp switch in the HEAD position.
- Multi-function switch in the HI beam position.
- Jumper Pin 8 to Pin 1 of the daytime running lamps control module connector.
Did high beam indicator illuminate?
Yes | No |
GO to A9. | REPLACE illumination bulb or SERVICE Circuits 932 (GY/W) or 57 (BK) for an open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
A9 CHECK PARKING BRAKE SWITCH
- With daytime running lamps control module removed, actuate all accessories to the OFF position.
- Check continuity of the parking brake switch between Pin 4 of the daytime running lamps control module connector and a known good ground.
- Apply and release parking brake.
Is resistance less than 1.5 ohms with parking brake applied and is resistance infinite with the parking brake released?
Yes | No |
GO to A10. | SERVICE ground connection at parking brake switch, or SERVICE Circuit 162 (LG/R) for an open or a short, or REPLACE parking brake switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
A10 RECHECK DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS CONTROL MODULE
- Reinstall daytime running lamps control module.
- Key in RUN.
- Parking brake fully released.
- Headlamp switch OFF or in the PARK position.
- Multi-function switch in the LO beam position.
Are the high beams on at reduced intensity?
Yes | No |
System is functioning properly. No service required. | REPLACE daytime running lamps control module. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. |
