T1 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 956

Is voltage of 0.6 ± 0.1 volt present?
YesNo, voltage of less than 0.5 volt presentNo, battery voltage present
GO to T2.GO to T3.GO to T4.
 

T2 PERFORM OUTPUT STATE CHECK

Does output toggle between 0.6 ± 0.1 volt and battery voltage on Pin 95 and ground?
YesNo
System OK.CHECK for intermittent on Circuit 821 (BR/O).
 

T3 CHECK CIRCUIT 821 (BR/O) FOR CONTINUITY

Is resistance less than 5 ohms?
YesNo
GO to T6.REPAIR open in Circuit 821 (BR/O). RERUN KOEO test.
 

T4 CHECK CYLINDER IDENTIFICATION SIGNAL (CID) CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO BATTERY VOLTAGE

Is battery voltage present?
YesNo
REPAIR short to battery voltage. RERUN test.GO to T5.
 

T5 INSPECT HARNESS

Is there damage or corrosion on harness?
YesNo
REPAIR damage to the connector. RERUN test.REPLACE PCM. GO to T9.
 

T6 CHECK CID CIRCUIT TO GROUND

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
YesNo
REPAIR ground short in Circuit 821 (BR/O). RERUN test.GO to T7.
 

T7 RERUN KOEO TEST WITH NEW IDM MODULE

Does system pass?
YesNo
GO to T8.REPLACE PCM. GO to T9.
 

T8 RETEST ORIGINAL IDM

Does system pass?
YesNo
Carefully RECHECK IDM pins and harness connector for corrosion or damage. REPAIR as necessary. RETEST system.Original IDM damaged. REPLACE with known good IDM.
 

T9 RERUN KOEO TEST WITH NEW PCM

Does system pass?
YesNo
Original PCM damaged. REPLACE with known good PCM.Carefully RECHECK PCM harness connector pins for open or short. REPAIR as necessary. GO to T10.
 

T10 RETEST ORIGINAL PCM

Does system pass?
YesNo
Carefully CHECK PCM pins and connector for corrosion or damage.PCM damaged. REPLACE with known good PCM.
